# Mars photography — v47

The landing-page landscape is an artistic photographic composite, not a documentary view from one camera position. All terrain and sand detail comes from real Curiosity Mastcam photographs. No generative AI was used to create or repair this version of the terrain.

- Original JPEG: https://assets.science.nasa.gov/content/dam/science/psd/photojournal/pia/pia25/pia25733/PIA25733.jpg
- Original dimensions: 10089 × 2399. Web asset: 6000 × 1427 WebP.
- NASA's published mosaic is white balanced. Its underlying pixel detail remains photographic.

## Sandy foreground: PIA26367

- NASA title: Curiosity Views Gediz Vallis Channel.
- Captured March 31, 2024 (sol 4142); mosaic of 176 Mastcam images.

- Original JPEG: https://assets.science.nasa.gov/content/dam/science/psd/photojournal/pia/pia26/pia26367/PIA26367.jpg
- Original dimensions: 16155 × 5850. Web asset: 6000 × 2173 WebP.
- The selected crop shows the dark sand in the channel. Rover hardware, its shadow, and missing mosaic edges are outside the displayed crop.

## Presentation

The original JPEGs were resized and encoded as WebP. The website arranges them in CSS, with a skyline clip, feathered layer overlap, a warm color grade, reframing, and adjusted vertical scale. The dark sky is a CSS gradient, supplemented by the site's decorative stars and dust animation. Colors and the combined geography are art-directed, rather than scientifically calibrated. The former AI-generated landscape is not included in the v47 deployment.

The CSS scene uses the same 2560 × 1440 cover framing as the animated rover fleet. Logos, models, and rover animation are unchanged from v46.
